Between 1977 and 1978 Chris Hawkings who had been racing his 'souped-up' Centaur and almost unbelievably, taking race honours against rated quarter tonners, was commissioned to design the GK24. This cruiser racer became the main catalyst of the Westerly metamorphosis.
